Posted on May 05, 2015

You may have heard (or read) the story of when The Kitchen co-founders Kimbal Musk and Hugo Matheson first met each other on Pearl Street in downtown Boulder. Kimbal’s dog ran up to Hugo which prompted casual chit-chat that led to a spontaneous dinner where the co-founders conceived of The Kitchen. This is of course one story but there is another backstory that you may not know.

Steven Levy, an American journalist and author, beautifully tells the story of how Kimbal was inspired to leave the technology world to embrace his love of food and embark on a journey with Hugo to change food culture across America.

“It was the most terrifying time of my life, and yet it was the most clarifying time of my life,” he says. “The idea of working on the food culture just became this mantra in the hospital. I’m going to do this, I’m going to do this, I’m going to do this. I didn’t know how to do it, I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I’m going to do this.”
