The Kitchen Welcomes Johnny Anderes as the Opening Head Chef in Chicago

chef-johnny-anderesWe are pleased to announce that Johnny Anderes will join The Kitchen family of restaurants as the Head Chef of The Kitchen Chicago when its doors open to the community this fall.


Johnny came from Telegraph & Reno, which he started with two partners in 2010. He helped lead the restaurant to various culinary awards including his own accolade as a finalist for Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef in the Great Lakes Region this year and Food & Wine’s People’s Choice winner in 2012. Prior to Telegraph, Johnny was at Avec for seven years.


The Kitchen is a family of restaurants that started in Boulder, Colo. by co-founders  Hugo Matheson, Kimbal Musk and Jen Lewin, with the mission to create Community Through Food. The Kitchen family of restaurants has seven locations across Colorado and The Kitchen Chicago will be Matheson and Musk’s first restaurant outside Colorado. The Kitchen’s philanthropic organization, The Kitchen Community, has been an active in the Chicago community since 2012 building Learning Gardens in over 100 schools across Chicago Public Schools with the help of Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Today, The Kitchen Community impacts over 65,00 children in Chicago every school day.


The Kitchen Chicago is a community bistro that is being built by the local craftsmen and designers in the historic Reid Murdoch building (located at 316 N. Clark St.) The menu will offer simple and seasonal dishes that are created with fresh ingredients sourced from a community of farmers, ranchers and purveyors located in and around Chicago.The Kitchen restaurants work hard to support environmentally-friendly practices, including composting, wind power, eco-friendly packaging and recycling.
